Easter Hangover

Howdy, howdy. I took a powder from the blog last week. Me and the family flew down to Charleston to spend the week at the beach with my folks on Kiawah Island. The pool was fit only for polar bears, but the sun warmed the first six inches of the ocean just fine. Big Bear and Little Bear rode the waves, made a sand castle, got a mess of mosquito bites and were totally spoiled by Grandma. As for me, I gained six pounds on desserts alone, not to mention Easter candy--Satan, thy name is M&Ms.

We flew back on Saturday. The plan was to leave early, as in 3:30 freakin' a.m. Everything was rolling along until a problem with the plane diverted us to Cincinnati. We received meal vouchers and a four hour layover. To add to the excitement, we also got an impressive thunder and lightening show punctuated by several announcements of a tornado warning. But I wasn't worried. Who ever heard of a tornado hitting an airport? (Hint: Ask someone from St. Louis.)

Finally on the runway in our new, working plane, Little Bear and I were patting our thighs in a tribute to the Little Einsteins cartoon when the takeoff was aborted--something about flaps in the wrong position. The captain, who loved to sign off each announcement in Elvis's voice, 'Thank you very much', dashed back to look at the flaps from the passenger's windows and declared them good to go.

We got into Rochester at 6 p.m. and drove like maniacs to the vet to spring free Miss Jesse before the office closed at 7 p.m. By 7:30 p.m., sixteen hours after getting up, we were home. Little Bear was already sawing logs and missed supper. Big Bear wanted to redecorate the house in honor of the Easter Bunny's impending arrival. I felt like a fish--sleeping with my eyes open.

I coaxed Big Bear into her bed by nine and face the task of cleaning our the cat's litter boxes, finding all the Easter swag, stuffing eggs, and wrapping toys. Luckily, no clumps of litter made their way into a plastic egg--thank you very much.

  4. Justine: I will never eat another M&M, (until I do)

Diane: I love Charleston. We always go to the aquarium for the kid's, but as they get older, I hope we can graduate to a horse-drawn carriage ride.

Katie: Can't take credit for those eggs--grabbed the image off Flickr, but LIttle Bear did dye eggs in her preschool.

I will do everything in my power to visit commenter's blogs unless I've been abducted by aliens or my children get sick. (If my children get abducted by aliens, I will be very busy, of course, catching up on my sleep.)
