Insecure Writers Support Group

Hi Everyone. I found out that the online issue of Wormhole Electric that will feature just my stories will come out next March. The editor said I could use previously published stories, but I do want to include new stuff too. I've also been working with her to create a different cover than what Wormhole Electric usually uses. March is a good release month, because I'll can use the A to Z blogging challenge in April to drum up interest.

As far as "practice" marketing goes, I've redone my publishing page and added a link for the latest short story on this page, but that's about it. I should be spending more time blogging, but with the holidays, a sick little one, and other time sucking things, it hasn't happened. At least the IWSG Guide To Publishing is out and available. Boy, do I need to read it.

It's been too long since I've done any writing, except for what I thought was a chuckalicious family Christmas letter. My husband read it over and asked, "Where were the LOL parts?" Et tu, Brute? His rewrites are making me wonder how I'm going to react if I ever get the chance to work with an editor on one of my novels. It may not be pretty.

Maybe I'm just going a little buggy, but I can't seem to settle down and get to work. I did find a website featuring short story writing contests you can enter for free, and I am planning on doing at least one (if I can find that site again). I also have a new novel stalking through my head like a trapped tiger. However, I need to do more reseach before I let it out, but even that isn't easy. Twice I've tried to order used books through the B&N website only to have them turn up unavailable. Sorry B&N. I love you, but I'm going back to Amazon.

This week the kids will be home half of Thursday and all of Friday, and after that loong weekend, I'll have two weeks to work before they're home for Christmas break. Must stop screwing around and focus. BLEA!

Is anyone else in a ba-humbug mood? Are you productive this time of year? If so, what's your secret?

  1. In November, my productivity took a nosedive. That usually happens after I release a book, so I'm hoping it'll bounce back a little this month. Or at least until Christmas break. Good luck with everything!

  2. Hey Tamara, that's tough when you get critiques like the one from your husband. ;-/ I've definitely felt defensive at times when my editor gives feedback, but then I let it percolate and typically I accept what she says. I haven't been writing much lately either but hope to get my mojo back soon.

  3. All of us have productivity mountains and valleys. Just keep trudging forward and eventually you'll come out the other side. This time of year is hard for a lot of people--the weather makes us slow, our families keep us busy. Not the best writing month of the year.

I think you're a brave woman using your husband as a reader. Mine can only read my stuff when it's published and too late to change--I have to be able to live with him!

  4. Best of luck with the collection.

I tend to hide away from as much as the commercial Christmas hype as possible, so I'm quite productive in December.

  5. Congrats on your future feature in Wormhole Electric!

During this time of the year I always have a hard time settling down to write, too. Hopefully we can both find sometime to crank out a few pages. Good luck with the short story contests if you do them! :)

  9. Ha! It must be something going around. I just posted something similar about not writing (mine due to lack of time and a new job.)

  11. I'm very productive this time of year. I keep the Christmas Carols going in the background, and double up on the Adderall and wine.

  12. I've been going through some rough patches in my writing right now but I find that I just need to keep moving on and not let it get me down no matter how steep the drop is. What a challenge. My secret is lots of praying and refocusing so that I don't get sucked into the vortex of doom!!! ;)

  14. I had to laugh about the Christmas letter. Hubs writes ours (and I'm the writer, btw) then I edit it. We do get some chuckles before sending it out.Best wishes.

  15. It's quite hard to keep one's self busy now that the holidays are upon us. I do admire people who can find a large chunk of time to write during this time. Thankfully, I do manage to write in spurts whenever I can. That is, if I don't fall asleep first. :-)

New follower here. Lovely to meet you through IWSG.

  16. It sucks when people don't get your humour doesn't it? You put all that effort into those quirky little comments and then bam! someone crushes your fragile illusions. You know, it could be his failing, not yours - maybe they were hilarious but he was having a bah humbug moment and has now infected you..?

  17. The word "chuckalicious" made me laugh, if that helps any. :)

And I'm usually a little out of sorts this time of year, with the post NaNo blues and then all the holiday hoopla.

  19. That's great about your collection. I hope you regain your focus. I have to keep putting drafts to the side because of editing and promoting, but I hope to have time during the holidays to write.

I will do everything in my power to visit commenter's blogs unless I've been abducted by aliens or my children get sick. (If my children get abducted by aliens, I will be very busy, of course, catching up on my sleep.)
