Z is for . . .

I Zwicky 18. Sounds like a robot from Star Wars, doesn't it? Close. It's a galaxy that found itself in list25's Most Bizarre Galaxies In The Universe because: a large amount of ionized helium is present, making scientists wonder what is emitting radiation strong enough to kick electrons off their helium atoms.

I think it's pretty.

And that's a wrap, folks! Twenty-six days of weird science! Huzzah! Over and out. Stick a fork in me. You can go get "Zwicky" with it, but I need a nap.

  1. You have done an excellent job. When I first came to your blog I didn't know what to expect. I was lousy in Biology and in most sciences. I loved Physics, though. You made me comfortable while reading your articles and I learned some neat things.

All the best and have a nice nap.

Visiting from the A to Z Blog Challenge.

  5. Congrats on finishing the challenge. I like your idea of getting zwicky now. We all need a distraction from the alphabet.

  6. Hey, we did it! And there were days when I really didn't think I'd pull through. I did partly because of your interesting posts. So thanks for the help along the way.

  7. It IS pretty! And I like the name too - kind of quirky.

Congrats on making it through the challenge. I loved all the posts I read. A seriously illuminating theme and well executed, kudos!

  12. Zwicky is a Swiss family name and a cereal brand for that matter! I love the picture of your galaxy, though!
Congrats on completing A-Z and happy Sunday!

  13. Well Done indeed for making it to the end of the A to Z using nothing but science I would have given up and just made stuff up. I have written my reflections post and you will find that by commenting regularly on my blog you get a special mention as folk seldom visit my blog . . . .

Enjoy the rest of 2016 and many thanks again for your regular visits to my humble blog to make a comment.

  17. That does sound like a name for a robot on Star Wars.
    Congrats on beating the challenge.

  19. Hahahahahaha... Totally named after R2D2's until-now unknown sidekick :D And yes, definitely weird about all that ionizing... Who needs fairy tales and magic (and religion) when there's so much mystery going on right now in our universe? Love this stuff. I'll be back to browse through your A2Z posts... Once I've gotten some sleep ;)

    Congrats on finishing the Challenge!

  20. I can't believe I missed this one too. I thought I was done, this catching up thing is impossible, or seems so, but once that's done. I'm done too! Congratulations on reaching the end!
    Happy May!

  23. I've never heard of I Zwicky 18. It sounds really cool!

Z, X and Y are always hard letters for me to think of things for. I play a game in my mind to and from work where I have to think of names I like for every letter. I have Z down, but X and Y are my hard ones.

  24. Woot! Excellent job on your theme. Thank you for teaching us so much cool stuff!

And, thanks for being a sidekick. I couldn't have done it without you!

I will do everything in my power to visit commenter's blogs unless I've been abducted by aliens or my children get sick. (If my children get abducted by aliens, I will be very busy, of course, catching up on my sleep.)
